Introduction

MINI-Facelift

Sometimes referred to as a midface lift, short-scar facelift, or “S-lift” due to its smaller incisions compared to a deep plane facelift, the mini facelift is a type of “SMAS facelift” designed to address early jowls and sagging skin in the lower face. The best mini facelift candidates are younger patients who specifically show premature jowling along the jawline but otherwise have a tight neck beneath the chin.

Patients should have realistic expectations about the results of this less invasive approach which does not produce equivalent results when compared to the more powerful and longer-lasting deep plane facelift. The mini facelift is not ideal for concerns related to heavy jowling or heaviness in the neck, such as a “turkey neck,” excess skin, or neck bands.

In these cases of more advanced aging changes, Dr. Gray recommends the more powerful extended deep plane facelift paired with a deep neck lift as the superior option to achieve full facial and neck rejuvenation.

How does a Mini Facelift work?

The mini facelift is a surgical procedure that offers a less invasive approach with more subtle results compared to Dr. Gray’s extended deep plane facelift. Although less extensive, it is still a surgical procedure with associated risks and a recovery period. The mini facelift is a variation of the “SMAS facelift,” also known as an “S-lift” or “short scar lift.” During this procedure, the underlying facial tissues are accessed, lifted, and secured with sutures. Unlike the superior extended deep plane facelift, the facial and neck ligaments are not fully released, and the neck is not always addressed as part of the procedure.

This approach typically results in a shorter scar, a more moderate lift, and outcomes that may have a shorter duration. It is particularly suitable for younger patients or those with early signs of aging who do not yet need or desire a deep plane facelift.

The mini facelift is especially appealing to individuals seeking facial rejuvenation with minimal downtime. Dr. Gray can conveniently perform this procedure in-office using oral sedation and local anesthesia, eliminating the need for general anesthesia and additional facility fees.

How Much Does A Mini Facelift Cost in Boise, ID?

The cost of a Mini Facelift in Boise, Idaho by Dr. Gray is $7,500 all-inclusive if done in office, or if anesthesia is preferred, we can provide a quote on additional anesthesia and facility fees that would apply to a 4 hour procedure. This pricing does not apply to revision facelift surgery, or patients who have had invasive facial procedures in the past (i.e. threads).

MINI FACELIFT FAQs

Is a mini facelift safe?

Although referred to as a “mini” facelift, this procedure is still a significant surgical intervention. Like any surgery, it carries inherent risks, including swelling, bruising, and a small possibility of infection. While these complications are rare when performed by a skilled surgeon, they remain potential risks. Dr. Gray is highly experienced in managing any potential complications and has a strong track record of delivering results that leave his patients highly satisfied.

What is the recovery for a mini facelift?

Recovery from a mini facelift is generally shorter compared to a traditional facelift. The initial recovery period lasts about two weeks, during which swelling and bruising are expected. These symptoms typically begin to subside a few days after the procedure and clear after a couple weeks.

Swelling usually resolves within the first week, and most patients feel largely recovered within 7-10 days, making it possible to return to work around this time. However, it’s important to avoid strenuous exercise for several weeks until Dr. Gray advises that it is safe to resume such activities.

Who is a candidate for a mini facelift?

Ideal candidates for a mini facelift are individuals in their early 30s or 40s experiencing the initial signs of aging. However, those in their late 20s who notice a loss of definition along the jawline may also benefit from a consultation with Dr. Gray. Common concerns addressed by a mini facelift include reduced jawline definition, the development of jowls, sagging skin, and hollow cheeks. Candidates should be in good overall health and should refrain from smoking to ensure optimal results and healing.

Many patients who seek a mini facelift are better suited for a more powerful extended deep plane facelift. Dr. Gray will be upfront with his recommendations during consultation with regards to candidacy for mini or extended deep plane techniques.

What are the technical differences between a Mini Facelift and an Extended Deep Plane Facelift?

The mini facelift can vary from surgeon to surgeon, but Dr. Gray uses a smaller incision around the temple and ear to access the SMAS layer, a fibrous tissue that naturally descends over time. The SMAS layer is tightened vertically with sutures, lifting the face and the skin along with it. Unlike more extensive procedures, the retaining ligaments are not released, and the neck is not lifted or contoured during the same procedure. Excess skin is removed, and precise sutures are placed to create a nearly invisible scar.

Dr. Gray’s extended deep plane facelift, on the other hand, involves longer incisions that are also discreetly hidden. This procedure includes a temporal lift, complete dissection of the SMAS layer to the corner of the mouth to address deep lines, release of all facial and neck retaining ligaments, and a combined deep neck lift to lift and sculpt the neck. This comprehensive approach allows for a more dramatic and longer-lasting rejuvenation. However, the recovery time is more extensive compared to the mini facelift, but the superior results make it worthwhile for many patients.
