Introduction

Surgical Lip Lift

Discover the benefits of a Lip Lift in Boise. This quick, surgical procedure is designed to enhance the definition and volume of your upper lip through a discreet incision placed along the natural border of the nose.

Dr. Gray’s Lip Lift technique embodies the principles of tasteful facial plastic surgery. Utilizing a subnasal incision hidden within the junction between the upper lip and the nose, this procedure uses precise elevation vectors, measurements designed to create natural lip ratios, and a tension-free closure. This approach ensures optimal lip proportions, rapid healing, and minimal visibility of the resultant scar.

The surgical lip lift offers several advantages over lip filler:

The red lip is rotated up, leading to natural volume and a cupid’s bow, rather than overfilled “duck” lips

Consistent and reliable outcomes given precise measurements tailored to individual anatomy

Can be paired with a corner lip lift in select patients

Permanent enhancement

Scar heals unnoticeable as it hides in the crease just below the nose

Why choose Dr. Gray for your lip lift?

At Gray Facial Plastic Surgery, we take a specialized approach that sets us apart. While many plastic surgery practices offer procedures for the entire body, we focus exclusively on one area: the face. SURGICAL LIP LIFT FAQs

Who is a candidate for a Lip Lift?

Typically, a Lip Lift is great for the following groups:

  • Younger patients wanting naturally defined lips without the exaggerated look of fillers or the recurrent expense/maintenance
  • Someone aiming to counter upper lip aging and lengthening by restoring volume and reducing upper lip length.
  • In combination with another facial rejuvenation procedure such as a facelift, in order to have a natural result
What are the benefits of a Lip Lift?

A properly performed lip lift offers multiple benefits. As we age, the upper lip stretches and lengthens, causing the red part of the lip to roll inward, making it appear thinner. The lip also falls, covering the upper teeth, which can age the mouth. By shortening the upper lip, these effects are reversed, giving the midface a lifted, rejuvenated look. The increased “red show” creates a fuller, more youthful appearance, which is often desirable even for younger patients.

How long do results last from a Lip Lift?

The results of a Lip Lift are permanent. The upper lip continues to age however, as does the rest of the face.

How is a Lip Lift performed?

Most patients tolerate a Lip Lift under local anesthesia (numbing medication) with or without oral medications for light sedation. Moderate to deep sedation can be offered if a patient would not tolerate being awake.

The procedure takes one hour. Dr. Gray will customize an incision design based on an individual’s anatomy, facial harmony, and contour of the Cupid’s bow. The incision is made, a small strip of upper lip skin is removed, and the upper lip is advanced upward and a meticulous, multilayered closure ensures a nonvisible scar.

Patients go home that same morning or afternoon.

What is the cost of a Lip Lift?

Dr. Gray believes in complete transparency with procedure pricing. Dr. Gray’s Lip Lift fee is located on our Procedure Pricing Page.

What is the recovery for a Lip Lift?

After the procedure, the upper lip will be sore and swollen, with swelling peaking in the first few days. This is normal and not dangerous. Keep the incision clean and covered with antibacterial ointment for about a week. Sutures will come out in our clinic within 3-4 days.

Limit activity for several days, avoiding exercise for around 10 days. Initial healing takes 2 weeks, with final results visible in 2-3 months. The scar improves over several months to a year to nearly invisible.
